INTERVIEW mit Martin von DONNYBROOK

TL2IN: Hello guys! How are you and what´s going on around you?
DONNYBROOK: We just finished up a month long European tour with Blacklisted and Terror
and it was the greatest time of my life. It was so wild and so much fun.

TL2IN: Can you please introduce yourself and tell us in a few sentences what
all happened to Donnybrook since the beginning of the band?
DONNYBROOK: I’m Martin.  I play guitar.  We started a few years back and have since
released a 4 song EP, a 4 song split CD with Piece By Piece and finally a full length this past
summer.

TL2IN: Your debut full length "Lions In This Game" is out since a few months. How was the first feedback and can you tell us something about the work in the studio and the new songs?
DONNYBROOK: The feedback has been great. Nothing but love from people while we’re out on tour on this record. The studio that we recorded at is owned by a good friend of ours and original drummer of this band, so the whole vibe was very relaxed while recording. We always had friends with us in the studio and we’re always partying and joking around so it made the whole experience really fun.

TL2IN: Are you satisfied with the new album and the result?
DONNYBROOK: I’m completely satisfied.

TL2IN: Can you please give us an insight into the lyrics and tell the kids something about the shouted words and your message?
DONNYBROOK: We write songs about hardcore because we are a hardcore band. People may say that’s “boring” and “over done”, but I don’t feel that way. The only way to keep hardcore alive is to portray it in your music. It’s like giving someone reassurance that what they’re into is still alive and strong.

TL2IN: Do you have any favourite song on the new record which you like to play, e.g. in connection to the lyrics, a special background or something like that?
DONNYBROOK: House of Rage. It’s a song written about our friends Corey (Internal Affairs), Jeff G. (Piece By Piece) and Adam’s (Craziest dude in life) apartment where we would all get together and party at when everyone was home from tour. It was a place where I’ve never had so much fun in my life just hanging out and getting rowdy with friends. They eventually got evicted because of the raging, so that song is a memorial to J-108 a.k.a. The House of Rage.

TL2IN: What distinguish you from other HC acts?
DONNYBROOK
: Probably that we have a kind of hip-hop feel in our vocal patterns. I guess similar to Madball. And none of the dudes in the band are white. We’re a very racially diverse band.

TL2IN: What do you think about straight edge?
DONNYBROOK: I think straight edge is a great thing. Although no one in this band is straight edge, we all have the up most respect for those that are as long as they keep it to themselves and don’t try to look down on anyone else who isn’t. It’s a pretty simple and well known formula…just respect us and we’ll respect you.

TL2IN: How was the time on the road with This is Hell, Most Precious Blood and MLIW?
DONNYBROOK: That was a great time. MLIW ended up not being on the tour, but we’ve played shows with them since then. We even met with MPB in Europe and did a show with them recently on our Terror / Blacklisted tour. It’s such a great thing to go out on the road with different bands and create friendships with them.

TL2IN: If you were able to go on tour with one of your favourite bands, which one would that be and why?
DONNYBROOK: It just happened. Terror and Blacklisted are 2 of my favorite bands musically and personally. We all get along together so well it’s perfect. Being able to do a whole month’s worth of shows in Europe with them was like a dream come true.

TL2IN: What kind of music do you listen to and which are your favourite records at the moment?
DONNYBROOK: I try to listen to as much current hardcore as possible to keep it fresh. I also listen to tons of hip hop also. Here’s a quick top 10 playlist of current bands I’ve been listening to: More To Pride, Razzle Dazzle, Iron Age, Lights Out, Iron Boots, Righteous Jams, Justice, Think I Care, No Turning Back, Blacklisted.

TL2IN: Thanks for your time and the interview. I wish you all the best for the future and hope to see you soon on a stage nearby and you burning it down. Do you have any final comments?
DONNYBROOK: Thanks so much for the interview.  Anyone out there reading this that hasn’t heard us before I just encourage you to check out our website and give us a listen.PEACE!!
